Alexander's career began with great
promise in 1997 when he filled in for the injured Gerhard Berger, and then in his first full season in 1998 which saw his memorable crash in Canada (where he later finished
5th), and a
truly inspired drive in Monaco that saw him pushing the likes of Michael Schumacher for position. From there,
unfortunately, Alexander's career goes downhill. Both the 1999 and 2000 seasons were ones to forget, as he was regularly outpaced by his team mate Giancarlo Fisichella. Presently, Alex hopes to re-start his career in the same manner as Oliver Panis, whom he takes over testing duties for at McLaren. Hopefully he will find
the sabbatical from racing will be just what he needed to renew his drive to compete in F1.
