As the man who unquestionably takes the title as the F1 driver with the longest name (Jonkheer Carel Pieter Anthonie Jan Hubertus Godin de Beaufort), Carel (who was a Dutch Count) was known as being a true gentleman in and out of the racecar.  His large, broad shouldered frame prevented him from competing in most conventional race cars, so he took to the helm of a slightly outdated Porsche and entered it in F1 in 1957.  His skill was very apparent, as he elegantly nursed the aging car to four point finishes in 31 Grand Prix.

During the German GP of 1964, while trying to qualify at his favorite track (Nurburgring) he crashed heavily at the Bergwerk corner and died in a hospital as a result of the injuries he sustained three days later.
