'We're just not quick enough.'
That was the honest appraisal of Irish team owner Eddie Jordan in the face of criticism from his star driver, Giancarlo Fisichella.
Giancarlo's Ford-powered EJ13 broke down in Sunday's Austrian Grand Prix but he was having little impression on the timesheets, anyway.
'We're working very hard to prevent these things from happening,' said Jordan.
The 30-year-old, Fisichella, stormed from his yellow surrounds after retiring with a fuel feed problem and told the media he is 'not happy at the moment.
'That was just another disappointing race,' he moaned, 'and my third retirement out of three.'
He said the car was offering 'no grip at all, which is not good enough.' Fisichella added: 'We need something for the future.'
Jordan hung on by the skin of their teeth over the winter with a shrinking commercial portfolio.
Speculation put their '03 racing appearance thanks to F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone and a cash injection.
But Fisichella, one of the best pilots in pitlane and awarded the 'Drivers' Driver' plaudits earlier this season, is unlikely to stick around to see if things change at Silverstone.
He's looking for a top drive for 2004. 'Even Eddie Jordan would like to see me in a winning car,' the Roman concluded.
